Mathematics is the study of quantity, change, and patterns, leading to insight and prediction. Mathematicians help leaders in the military, government, business, and other organizations make better decisions by understanding the way things work and interact with each other through the application of mathematics-based analytic methods.
What do Mathematicians do in the Army?
While some mathematicians teach at USMA, many are in the FA49 branch, Operations Research Systems Analysis, serving at Division staffs and above, as well as numerous analytic agencies across the Army and DoD. Army mathematicians are involved with research & development, simulations, optimization, scheduling, budget analysis, and many other areas.
