What is Statistics?

Statistics is the study of the analysis and interpretation of data, to include collection and sampling, design of experiments, and data presentation. Statisticians help leaders in the military, government, business, and other organizations make better decisions through the application of statistical inference and probability models.

What do Statisticians do in the Army?

While some statisticians teach at USMA, most serve with the FA49 branch, Operations Research Systems Analysis, serving at Division staffs and above, as well as numerous analytic agencies across the Army and DoD. Army statisticians are involved with research & development, simulations, optimization, scheduling, budget analysis, survey analysis, clinical trials and medical applications, and many other areas.
